Recommendations are made by the WGIN board members and final award. Entries happen by invitation from a board member – each board member contributes suggestions, and WGIN board collectively create a shortlist of 3-5 individuals or companies / nonprofit / entities that are encouraged / invited to submit an entry.

Judges for this award are WGIN board members and will judge on level of advocacy and impact as a result and type and level of contribution over the past year/or years within the areas of the defined WGIN mission statement objectives:

1. Integration advocates. To be a global advocate for the integration of green infrastructure in urban areas.
2. Spread awareness. To share information about green roof infrastructure science, practice, economics and environmental and social benefits.
3. Green city planning. To provide support data for green city planning.
4. Research & Development. To promote and engage in green infrastructure research and development with like-minded associations and companies.
5. Annual congress. To hold an annual World Green Infrastructure Congress WGIC.
6. Climate benefits. To promote the benefits of green infrastructure in mitigating the impacts of climate change on urban populations.
