Benedict
Essuman-Quainoo

Research Fellow, WGIN Board Member, President of WGIN Chapter for Emerging Professional
 
Benedict earned his Bachelor's in Environment and Resource Studies from the University for Development Studies (Ghana) in 2013 and a Master's in Applied Ecology and Biological Safety from Kazan Federal University (Russia) in 2018. He completed his Doctoral studies at The Education University of Hong Kong, researching green roofs, green walls, and nature-based solutions globally, especially in understudied and underserved regions. Beyond academia, Benedict actively advocates for greening cities through leadership roles as a Board Member of the World Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN) and President of its Chapter for Emerging Professionals (CEP). He fosters collaboration and knowledge-sharing among early-career professionals to advance urban greening initiatives.

 

 

 

 

 

Elaise
Gabriel  

Professor, Executive Committee Member of the Chapter for Emerging Professionals at WGIN

Elaise Gabriel is a professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil, and serves on the Executive Committee of WGIN’s Chapter for Emerging Professionals. She graduated in Civil Engineering (State University of Mato Grosso, 2018) and in the Special Graduation Program for Teacher Training for Professional Education (Federal University of Santa Maria, 2021), and holds Master's and PhD in Civil Engineering focused on EEnvironmental Comfort and Water Resources and Environmental Sanitation (Federal University of Santa Maria, 2020 and 2023). Elaise has been a visiting scholar in the US and Germany and works primarily on hydrosanitary and electrical systems, green walls, and green roofs.

 

 

 

 

 

Olyssa
Strarry

Leader of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment Program at Bucknell University, chair of the regional centers of excellence (RACE) committee for Greenroofs for Healthy Cities

Dr. Olyssa Starry directs the Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment Program at Bucknell University, where she explores how green infrastructure, especially ecoroofs, influences ecological, social, and health outcomes. Her recent research focuses on how ecoroof design affects air quality and offers horticultural therapy benefits. Her publications, in journals such as Ecological Engineering and Urban Ecosystems, examine biodiversity using beetles as indicators and the role of plants in the ecoroof water cycle. Olyssa also co-authored a green roof activity book for children. She previously taught urban ecology at Portland State University and was an active member of the Greenroof Info Thinktank (GRiT). She currently chairs the Regional Centers of Excellence (RACE) committee for Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. Olyssa earned her PhD from the University of Maryland, where she used wireless sensors to study the ecophysiology of green roof plants. Her career bridges research, education, and advocacy for healthier urban environments.

 

 

 

 

 

Selim
Bayraktar

Researcher and lecturer at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa

Dr. Selim Bayraktar explores landscapes as dynamic interfaces between ecology, culture, and society. With over 15 years of academic experience, he contributes to research and education at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa. His recent work focuses on peri-urban forests, emphasizing data-driven approaches to interpret complex social–ecological systems and landscape perception. Through European COST Actions, he advances transdisciplinary collaboration, leads working groups, and contributes to shaping international research agendas. He also supports high-impact journals as a reviewer and editorial contributor.

 

 

 

 

 

Kamil
Rawski

Assistant professor at Bialystok University of Technology

Assistant professor at the Białystok University of Technology. He represents the scientific discipline of architecture and urban planning, moving mainly in the area of landscape architecture and the use of computer techniques in design. His research areas include the analysis of urban open spaces in the context of universal design, as well as sustainable design of urban greenery. Board member of the Polish Green Roof Association and Bialystok Branch of the Association of Polish Landscape Architects.
